Argentina
Argentina will seduce you with its elegant city, Buenos Aires, magnificent mountains, vast plains, colossal glaciers and one of the most breathtaking waterfalls in the world. It’s a country that will tempt you with sumptuous beef and glorious wine, enlighten you with culture and thrill you with the sinuous moves of the world-famous tango.
Buenos Aires has a distinctly European ambiance, with sophisticated culture, museums, architecture and cuisine. The legend of Evita Peron looms large in this astonishing city, and you can live her fascinating myth from the balcony of the striking Casa Rosada.
At the very north of country is stunning Iguazu Falls, a spectacular demonstration of the force and beauty of nature. The charming town of Bariloche lies at the foot of the glorious Andes Mountains, amid glistening lakes and snow-capped peaks. Winter is ideal for exhilarating skiing, and summer opens up an enlivening world of hiking, rafting and horseback riding.
As the southernmost city in the world, the town of Ushuaia literally lies at the end of the earth – with the next stop Antarctica. Picturesquely set with a backdrop of rugged mountains, lush forests and endless waters, Ushuaia presents unforgettable vistas of thundering glaciers and penguins frolicking in the icy blue sea. Buenos Aires
You’ll have a hard time visiting Argentina without touring the country’s political, economic and cultural capital. Buenos Aires is the ninth largest city in the world and home to roughly one third of Argentina’s citizens. With its museums, clubs, live music, classical dancing venues, fantastic shopping featuring fine leather goods, gourmet restaurants and first-rate public transportation system, Buenos Aires is a traveler’s dream. Buenos Aires has less Spanish influence than most South American cities, reflecting its varied indigenous and European roots. Each of its 48 neighborhoods has a distinct character, and they all blend to give this city a unique sort of beauty that entrances residents and visitors alike. Bariloche
The charming town of Bariloche lies at the foot of the glorious Andes Mountains, amidst the glistening lakes and snow-capped peaks of the surrounding Nahuel Huapi National Park. Winter is ideal for exhilarating skiing, and summer opens up an enlivening world of hiking, camping, rafting and horseback riding. El Calafate
This town draws notoriety from its proximity to Parque Nacional Los Glaciares. There you can see several glaciers, the most prominent being Perito Moreno Glacier. The interaction between the glacier and the Lago Argentino, whose waters it sometimes blocks, can produce spectacular results. Iguazu
At the very north of country along the Brazilian border, this quiet town is a gateway to the Iguazu National Park. The park provides a home for more than 400 species of birds, and such native wildlife as giant anteaters, howler monkeys, ocelots and jaguars. However, the park’s main attractions are the stunning Iguazu Falls. They are over 1½ miles in diameter, and at their highest point have a vertical drop more than 1½ times that of Niagara Falls. The roaring falls so powerful, they leave a 100-foot vertical spray of water. Mendoza
The center of Argentina's famous wine country, Mendoza is most popular from January through April when the wine harvest festivals are in full swing. This lively city also features historical and cultural monuments and museums dating back to the 1500's. Surrounded by gorgeous scenery, enjoy rafting on Rio Mendoza, hiking and wildlife viewing. For a change of pace, try Mendoza in winter for skiing. Puerto Madryn
People flock to this port city primarily for its proximity to the Peninsula Valdes and Punta Tombo wildlife reserves - which provide sanctuary for penguins, elephant seals, sea lions and whales. However, Puerto Madryn has its own “wild life” that congregates around its boardwalk, beach and lively streets. A casino and delectable seafood restaurants give visitors plenty to do once the sun goes down. Ushuaia
