Argentina
Picturesque dunes, the seemingly eternal Atlantic Ocean and warm, temperate weather characterize Argentina’s beaches. Tropical currents that flow past Argentina’s coastline warm the waters for a pleasant, relaxing swimming experience. Though some of the more popular beaches host huge numbers of locals on weekends, plenty of sites afford more privacy and room to enjoy the experience.

The landscape of Argentine beaches ranges from rocky to sandy to lush with vegetation, so everyone can find a location to match their taste. Many beaches also offer water-based activities such as jet skiing, parasailing, fishing and windsurfing.

Brazil
You cannot visit Brazil without at least seeing Copacabana and Ipanema, Rio de Janeiro’s two most prominent beaches and, some would argue, the two best beaches in the world. Every young, hip and beautiful person in Brazil is almost required to make an appearance at these gorgeous sites and then partake in the legendary nightlife just steps away from the ocean.

Once you’re done with Rio, however, venture out into some of Brazil’s other beaches. Beachgoers love the white sand, the marine life (including friendly dolphins in some places) and the mountains and forests that start where the sand stops.

Costa Rica
Costa Rica’s Pacific and Caribbean coasts have miles of beaches lined with palm trees and lush forests. What you’ll find in Costa Rican beaches are nature preserves, prime surfing conditions, stunning sunsets and an unsurpassed atmosphere of relaxation.

The beaches here are perfect for swimming, snorkeling, diving and surfing. Nature lovers will also find much to love, as the oceans hold coral formations, undeveloped islands and colorful marine life. Many of the country’s beaches act as nesting grounds for sea turtles.

El Salvador
El Salvador has 200 miles of beaches on the Pacific Ocean. These beaches tend to have rough waves perfect for surfing, with breaks in both directions and a few very long breaks. A few beaches cater to those wishing to just relax in the sun next to calm waters.

El Salvador’s beaches are clean, mostly uncrowded and easy to access. The rugged wilderness that abuts the beaches also delights nature lovers. The beaches in the north have volcanic black sand, while in other parts of the country the sand is a pristine white.

Guatemala
With black sand beaches and strong ocean waves, Guatemala is surfing heaven. The beaches here tend to be less developed and therefore less crowded than those in other countries. You have a good chance of getting miles of waves all to yourself here.

For non-surfers, there are plenty of beaches with gentle waves perfect for just frolicking. It’s not uncommon to encounter friendly stingrays, marine turtles, dolphins and pelicans in the water.

Uruguay
Vacationers to Uruguay enjoy gorgeous coastlines, family-friendly beaches and hospitable locals. The scenery and gentle waters attract families with children, while nearby mountains and historical sites appeal to those with more adventurous leanings.

Just about anything you want from a beach you’ll be able to find in Uruguay. With beaches on the Rio de la Plata as well as the Atlantic Ocean, you’ll find every level of development, landscape, wave strength and activities you can imagine.
