Sao Paulo
Sao Paulo is the melting pot of many nationalities and cultures who have
helped to make it the industrial and manufacturing center of Brazil
and arguably, of Latin
America.
Sao Paulo never stops, the other states say, perhaps with a touch of
envy, as they joke about the locomotive that pulls the nation ahead. Like a
magnet, the city draws immigrants and visitors and it can be said that Sao
Paulo is a world in itself, where anything imaginable can be found.
Consider
the different sections of the city: the Italian (Bexiga), Asian (Liberdade),
Jewish business district (Bom Retiro) and the aristocratic residential
areas, graced by stately homes nestled among splendid parks. Downtown, one
can visit replicas of Sao Paulo's first buildings, erected in 1554 by
Anchieta and Manuel de Nobrega, Portuguese Jesuits.
In one day you can
enjoy an American breakfast, lunch at a Japanese restaurant, take English
tea at 5 o'clock, have a cocktail at a French bistro and dine in a Russian
restaurant. |
